Obituary for Barbara Ann Hathaway Rubacky

Barbara H. Rubacky passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. Barbara was born in Brooklyn and moved to Teaneck as a child. After graduating from Teaneck High School in 1948, she followed her dream to become a nurse at Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing. While there, she met the love of her life, George Rubacky. They married in October 1952 and were blessed with 4 beautiful children. After facing a few hurdles, as young couples do, they ended up settling down in Fair Lawn in 1964 to raise their children and live life. They also enjoyed weekend getaways and yearly vacations at their country house in the Poconos. When not working, traveling or taking care of her family, Barbara enjoyed gardening and knitting.

As a Registered Nurse, Barbara worked for several decades at Hackensack Hospital. First in the clinic and then in the ER. She took time off when her husband retired in 1985. After he passed away suddenly in 1987, she returned to work Maple Glen Center in Fair Lawn where she retired from in 1992. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling, concerts (especially Tony Bennett) and going out to eat. If you could combine all in a road trip, down the shore, convertible top down and 1950s music blaring she was in heaven.

Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, George. F. Rubacky, sister Adelaide Stober Seidel and brother Andrew Hathaway; She was a devoted mother to George F. Rubacky III (Erin); Robert A. Rubacky, (Sharon); Paul B.Rubacky, and Barbara E. Rubacky; cherished grandmother to Tasia McCarthy and great grandmother to Ojay and Owen. She also leaves behind hersister, Cathleen Hathaway; brother James Hathaway, as well as her beloved dog Lillie.

Contributions in Barbara’s memory made to Stjude.org or the aspca.org as everyone knew how much she loved children and animals.
