Obituary for Claudio Francisco Lazo

Claudio F. Lazo, born June 6,1935, of Fair Lawn passed away on February 9, 2023 with his children by his side. Claudio was born in Ecuador to Juan Lazo and Dolores Lazo Cedillo and was the eldest of 7 children. Claudio served his native country's military at the age of 18. Claudio was a semi-professional soccer player in Ecuador and coached at the Collegiate level for many years. He emigrated to America in August of 1982 where he would eventually raise his children; Claudia and Claudio, Jr. He brought many of his passions with him to America including a deep love for soccer and music. Continuing with his love for soccer, he coached a winning soccer team for the Hotel Employees Soccer League where they held several NYC Championship titles. He took this team to tournaments around the Caribbean and parts of Latin America including; Mexico & Dominican Republic to compete. He was named Manager of the year under the league. Claudio was a true music enthusiast. He never shied away from a karaoke opportunity to sing along to his favorite tunes. Between his guitar and a microphone is where Claudio was the happiest.

Claudio worked as a Banquet Steward for the Sheraton New York for over 20 years before retiring and spent time travelling and celebrated many fun times with his family. He enjoyed cooking and made family mealtimes a high priority. He will be greatly missed.

Claudio is survived by his beloved children Claudia Hernandez and Claudio Lazo, Jr. His grandchildren Ariana and Lazaro Hernandez.
