Obituary for Elizabeth M. Palazzo

Elizabeth “Betty” Palazzo passed away peacefully on January 11, 2023 at the age of 89. Betty, as she liked to be called, was the oldest of six and was affectionately called “Mother Superior” by her siblings. She married Joseph “Joe” Palazzo, June 6, 1954, and was the love of his life until his passing in 2011. They would hold hands and eat snacks while watching TV. Game shows, the soaps and Dancing with the Stars were Betty’s favorites along with watching her Yankees, who she loved! Betty kept track of the team stats, trades, and always had an opinion on what the organization should do.

Getting together with her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law to play Crazy Eights or take rides to Atlantic City was something they did monthly. Her nieces and nephews would look forward to her phone calls and special cards, as she never forgot a birthday or holiday. Sunday dinner gatherings were a staple along with Christmas being her favorite holiday.

Betty was tenderly known to her family and friends as “The Boop”, which she loved. Others might say she was a firecracker, a piece of work and had a feisty spirit, but you can always guarantee having a laughable conversation. Some might even refer to Betty as the “Voice of Sandvik” as she worked for the company for over 30 years as the Receptionist, it was her second family.

No matter what, Betty will always be Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who she adored.

Betty will be missed by her family and friends, and will be remembered as “Nana, The Boop, The Legend”

Betty is survived by her two sons: Joseph T. Palazzo, his wife Martha; Thomas J. Palazzo, his wife Tina; daughter Maria B. Moore, her husband Robert; grandchildren: Jennifer, her husband Jason, Jackie, Lisa, her husband Brian, Michelle, her husband Joe, Michael, his wife Amanda, Melissa, Anthony and Tara; 9 great grandchildren; two brothers: Joseph and Patrick and a sister Mary. Betty is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to the Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps. 1 Coopers Way, Fair Lawn, NJ 07410.
