Erma Mary McCarthy (nee Egan) passed peacefully on Friday, May 19, 2023. Born in 1933, Erma was the oldest of eight children. Erma was a graduate of Holy Angels Academy. She and Robert moved to Glen Rock in 1971, where they raised their loving family. Erma most enjoyed spending time with her family and large extended family and volunteering. She was a parishioner at Saint Catherine’s Church in Glen Rock for over 50 years. She was instrumental in creating and organizing many charitable programs with the homeless, including St. Mary’s Church & St. Boniface in Jersey City as well as Eva’s Village in Paterson NJ. She organized turkey drives for Christmas and Thanksgiving and also organized toy drives at Christmas time. Erma was an associate with the Sisters of Saint Joseph’s of Peace for over 35 years, a position she valued greatly. She implemented many charitable programs and ministries because her passion in life was helping those in need.

She is pre-deceased by her parents John and Erma Mary and five siblings: John Egan, Veronica Fleissner, Eleanor Lombardo, Tom Egan and Cathy Egan. She is survived by her brother Bryan Egan and sister Maureen Graziano. Erma is also survived by her beloved husband of 63 years Robert McCarthy, her daughter Rosemary Erma, her son Bryan (Owen) and her grandchildren: Liam and Maeve Erma and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
