Obituary for Estelle F. "Sally" Franks

Estelle “Sally” F. Franks passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at the age of 90. Born in Totowa, she was a former resident of Saddle Brook for 46 years and Ocean Gate, NJ for 22 years.

A 1949 graduate of Central High School of Paterson, NJ; she worked in Sales for Meyer Bros in Paterson,NJ. Her most proudest and rewarding positions were working for Curtiss Wright Aeronautics in Woodbridge, NJ where she held a position in Engineering as a “Blue Print Courier”with holding some confidential mapping of WWII airplanes. She was the first female in that role as she open the doors for other women in that field. She was also the proud co-owner of the Hawthorne House Tavern in Hawthorne, NJ from early ‘60’s until her husband’s passing in 1977 as she then became a stay at home mom.

Sally loved spending time with her family and friends especially for holiday gatherings. She enjoyed gardening, antiquing, watching old movies such as Gone with the Wind and Casablanca, listening and dancing to oldies music especially to her Elvis songs over and over. Sally enjoyed watching her favorite sport teams; NY Mets and NY Jets with her son Russ. In the last 5 years of her life she was cared for by her daughter Jacqueline and her husband Pete where she enjoyed traveling with them in their RV just exploring other States.

Sally’s vibrancy and fun loving spirit was her trademark; she was feisty, witty and sassy. She will be always remembered for her love of life and magnetic personality.

Her husband Joseph M. Franks died in 1977. She is also predeceased by her parents Robert and Estelle Sloan and her siblings; 2 Sisters; Elsie and Eva and her 2 brothers; Elmer and Bill all whom she treasured dearly.

She is survived by her six children; Pamela Wallace, JoAnn Franks-Callju, Beverly Franks, Joseph Michael, his wife Donna, Russell Franks, Jacqueline and her husband Peter Shropshire. 3 Grandchildren and 3 Great grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
