After 96 full years of life, Evelyn returned to her Heavenly Father in the early hours of December 22nd. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Jack, the love of her life, and her middle child Dennis. She is survived by her daughter Patrice and her husband Dick and her son John and his wife Teresa. Evelyn enjoyed knowing all five of her grandchildren, Emily, James and his wife Sara, Hannah, Mary and Joseph and her two great grandchildren, Teddi and Jake.
Born and raised in Astoria Queens, Evelyn, grew up surrounded by her extended family and recalled how everyone lived so close to each other and they would walk from one cousin’s house to another. Later Evelyn’s family moved to Brooklyn. There, while at a church social she met the love of her life Jack. They were married after Jack finished his Master’s Degree and landed a teaching job. They moved to the developing suburbs on Long Island. Evelyn loved those years, her work as a home maker and raising her children. Evelyn did volunteer work for disabled children, was a CCD mom and drove “Mom’s Bus” taking her children to the various activities and sports. She was a lifelong arts and crafts person who enjoyed cross stitch, crochet and various other craft work. She made many afghans during her life, kept a few for herself, but gave away most of them to charities, those in need, and in recent years to the “Baby Bank” a mission providing support to new mothers in the Northern NJ area. Evelyn and Jack eventually retired from Long Island, and moved to West Milford to be closer to their son and enjoyed the more relaxed life of the NJ country side.
After the passing of her husband, Evelyn eventually moved to Assisted Living in Paramus, and continued to enjoy Arts and Crafts and Bingo and other events held at the Facility. Evelyn was always happy for the visits from family members from near or far. While at Assisted Living she made many new friends and enjoyed the times having her meals in the Dining Room with her friends to catch up on the latest happenings at the facility. She was even appointed to position of Resident Ambassador where she would assist new residents acclimate to their new home.
