Obituary for Harriet Miras

Harriet Miras, of Washington Township, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 16th 2022 at 87 years old after a long, well lived life. Born in New York City to parents Peter and Anna from Greece, Harriet took great pride in her Greek Spartan roots. Having moved to NJ in 1969 from the Bronx, Harriet, husband Bill and 2 boys, Peter and James established roots in Washington Township, NJ in Bergen County. Harriet became a fixture within the community as many knew her from her customer service work at United Jersey Bank/Bank of America in Westwood for over 25 years. Harriet was also an early member of the Washington Township Volunteer Ambulance Corp and often volunteered to help run concessions for little league baseball and school functions in town. To all that had the opportunity to know her, Harriet was a compassionate and nurturing soul, always willing to help others ahead of herself.

Harriet spoke proudly and lovingly of her Bronx roots and was a huge Yankees fan, often teasing her husband Bill who was a lifelong Mets fan. She loved music and was an enormous Elvis Presley fan. At most events, you would find her on the floor as she loved to dance. She was an avid U.S. history buff and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with all. However, above all else, her love of family and friends was everything to her.

Harriet is survived by her loving sons Peter & James, their wives Georgette and Christine, cherished grandmother of Justine, Katie and Alex; dear sister to Gus and John Pangis, their wives Esther and Helen; nieces and nephews Peter, Denise, George, Nicolle and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill and son George.
