Obituary for Joseph J. Trobunella, Jr.

Joseph J. Trobunella Jr., 75, formally of Glen Rock, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2023. Joe was born to Joseph Sr. and Helen Trobunella in Paterson, New Jersey and raised in Glen Rock where he graduated from Glen Rock High School. Joe enlisted in the United States Army on April 10, 1969 and was honorably discharged on January 14, 1971. Joe followed his love of hard work and became a member of the Northeast Carpenters Union of New Jersey. He settled down in Waldwick, NJ with his family where he was a devoted member of the rec sports community.

Joe is survived by his former spouse, Barbara (DePalma); children, Nicole (James) Buccola and Joseph S. Trobunella; grandchildren, Nicholas, Kendall, and James; his two sisters and their families, Marie (Paul) Romeo and Linda (Peter) Nawyn; as well as beloved, nieces, nephews, extended family, and his good friend, Frank Rivara.

In his free time, Joe enjoyed playing golf, gardening, cooking, and playing poker. He loved to visit Long Beach Island for many summers with his family, and eventually his grandchildren. Annually, Joe would escape the winter months of New Jersey by visiting his son, Joe, in Arizona where he loved to cook, fine tune his short game on the golf course and perfect his tan. One of his true passions was racehorses, spending many summer days in the Meadowlands or Saratoga Springs with a newspaper in his hand. A diehard N.Y. Yankee fan, 162 days of the year you could find Joe in his favorite recliner or sitting outside with his AM radio nearby. However, nothing compared to the love of watching his kids and grandkids grow up “on the field.” No fence in Bergen County was spared from the lean of the man with his sunglasses and toothpick.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s honor to the New Jersey Veterans Home at Paramus,1 Veterans Drive, Paramus, NJ 07652, would be greatly appreciated.
