Obituary for Judith C. Jones

Judy Jones (Mama Judy to many who loved her) departed this life for the loving embrace of Our Lord on March 11, 2023. Judy was born Judith C. Orrico to Charles and Mildred Orrico of Jersey City, residing in Teaneck, New Jersey.

Judy and her husband, Griffith J. Jones married on October 3, 1964 living in Maywood, Saddle Brook, Glen Rock and finally Hawthorne, New Jersey. She leaves behind her husband, Griffith J. Jones, her four children; Griffith C. Jones, his wife Rosemarie, Noelle Mountain, her husband Timothy, Naomi Ferrante, her husband Michael, and Sandra Malmeister; 13 beloved and loving grandchildren, Timothy Mountain, Michela Mountain, Madison Jones, Aidan Mountain, Griffith G. Jones, Maeve Mountain, Evan Jones, Michael Ferrante, Nicholas Ferrante, Christopher Ferrante, Carter Jones, Brynn Jones and Jack Malmeister. Judy is survived by cousins, numerous grandnieces and nephews and many close friends.

Judy’s life revolved around her family, her Catholic faith and her modest retreat at the Jersey shore in Beach Haven West. After retiring from her job as a Teacher’s Aide for Pre-K and Kindergarten at Assumption Academy in Emerson New Jersey, she was able to direct her love, full time to her grandchildren and her home.

Judy always made sure that there was something for everyone at "Sunday Dinner,” a weekly tradition at her home, where all of her family gathered together. Not a birthday or holiday passed without great attention paid to each of her children and grandchildren. On Sundays, even before the main course was consumed and people were already groaning with overload, Mama would head into the kitchen to "put on another pot of water, just in case!”

Every Easter she would spend hours washing and drying plastic “eggs" and filling each one with the appropriate goodie for each child, personalizing every egg by marking a name and making certain that each grandchild got the same, each treated with the special love that only Mama Judy could provide. We all looked forward to these annual events. She made sure that everyone in her presence was comfortable, with a bright smile and kind words. Judy loved life, she loved people, and she loved God. While on this earth just shy of 80 years, she left an immeasurable mark on many, many lives.

In lieu of flowers, donations on her behalf can be made to The Charlie Landers Foundation, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Boy’s Town.
