Obituary for Marguerite Josephine Ferreira

Marguerite Josephine Ferreira (nee D’Angelo) of Fair Lawn, NJ, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Born at home to Giacomo and Josephine( nee D'Ercole) D'Angelo on July 13, 1930, lived and raised on the family farm in Dumont, NJ. Moved to Fair Lawn in 1953. Marguerite was an active member of her community as a Brownie Leader and Boy Scout Leader for her children. As a parishioner of St. Anne Roman Catholic Church, she was a member of the Rosary Society and the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Marguerite and her late husband Louis, were leaders and very active in the American Legion Post No. 171, where she served as the Chaplain for the Woman’s Auxiliary Unit. They were also active members of the Friday Social Club at the Fair Lawn Senior Center for several decades. Marguerite was the youngest of 10 children, and the last surviving child who grew up on the family farm known as D’Angelo’s Farm in Dumont. She loved to tell everyone proudly that she grew up driving a tractor and worked hard on the farm. With a great passion for gardening, she loved all flowers, but her favorite were pansies.

Marguerite lived her whole life for her husband and her children. She loved showing off pictures of her younger years, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to just about anyone who would sit and look at all the little “Brag Books” she always kept in her purse. Margie, as everyone called her, was a generous and kind person who would drop everything if someone called and needed her. She loved sharing her yearbook quote which said, “She is shy and demure, but don’t be too sure” with a devilish and sassy smile. She loved meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends and family. She had the greatest infectious laugh and loved to laugh often. Being a true family matriarch, she defined “Family” as people who are there for you and that you can count on.

Before retiring at the age of 80 years old to stay home to care for her husband, Marguerite was a lunch aide for Milnes Elementary School since the early 1970’s until 2010. The children loved her and called her “grandma” She became an adopted Grandma to many in their eyes. She was a waitress for Kay’s Pizza, the Brunch Club, Peter’s Whale (now Oceanos) from way back when it was in the old Kinds Dairy building.
