Obituary for Richard J Dickman, Sr

Richard J. Dickman, Sr., 90, of Saddle Brook, passed peacefully on January 11, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Cliffside Park, Richard moved with his family to Saddle Brook in 1982.

Richard served a life of service to his country and community. He proudly served in the Navy during the Korean War and continued his service by becoming a member of the Cliffside Park Volunteer Fire Department, rising to the rank of Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department.

An electrician by trade, Richard was always ready to help friends and family with home projects large and small. During his career, he worked for Beck Electric, ConRail & Midland Bank before retiring from Valley National Bank in 1999.

Richard loved his time at home with friends and family and enjoyed Atlantic City, playing cards, gardening and could always be found at sporting events for his children & grandchildren. He was also a devoted NY Giants fan. Richard was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Roman Catholic Church for the last four decades.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary ( Rose ). Devoted father of Mary Metzger (Kevin), Frank Metzger (Paula), the late Jeanne Metzger, Richard Dickman, Jr. ( Tiffany ), Thomas Dickman ( Lorraine ), Nancy Dickman & Carol Jupiter. Cherished grandfather of Christopher Metzger ( Alex ), Matthew Metzger ( Caitlyn ), Amanda Metzger, William Metzger, Emily Dickman, Thomas Dickman, Ryan Dickman & great-grandfather of Cameron Metzger. He is predeceased by his brothers George, John, Henry, Robert & Joseph. Richard is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 16, 2023 from 4 – 8 pm at the Vander Plaat Colonial Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. Funeral mass to be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, 10:00AM at St. Philip the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Saddle River Road, Saddle Brook. Entombment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Westminster Place, Saddle Brook.
