Our Beloved Richard
Always remember our sweet Richard as the loving, kind hearted soul that he was. He would do anything for anybody. He loved his family, his brothers, William and Andrew meant the world to him and just a few years ago he was blessed to gain a sister in Will’s fiancé, Dana.
Some of you may know that as a young child he was so determined to do well whether it be in school, on the soccer field, or baseball field and let me tell you this kid could play any position, he had so much power. We won’t go into too much detail when he attempted football and was tackled by a girl from the opposing team. He enjoyed all sports. He even built his own mini golf 5-hole golf course in the backyard and made us compete with him. Of course, he won the mini golf “tournament”.
No matter his struggles early on though he persevered. And even at a very young age he looked to help those who struggled in school, who just needed a little help, he was the little helper to his teachers and his classmates.
Richard would always greet you with a warm wonderful smile that would light up a room and give you the biggest bear hug anyone could ask for. It that’s hug that will continue to give us comfort. If you had any worries before, it all went away with that hug.
Richard loved to cook. And it is no secret he loved a good hearty meal. He often whipped up his chef creations for his family where we became his sous-chefs and the personal dish cleaning crew. He was such a foodie. We have countless numbers of pictures of his dinner plates.
Richard also had a love for all animals. They all could sense, his kind loving soul within, and would lay on his lap and fall asleep knowing they were safe with him. He often enjoyed the walks to the nearby horse farm to feed the horses fresh carrots, and loved discussing and watching a good marvel movie with the family.
He later found his path in Environmental Science, even traveled to Vietnam to do part of his studies there. He always wanted to go back in the future to see how far they had progressed in their environmental endeavors. So many dreams he had.
He worked as a safety officer for a road construction company. And I’m not surprised one bit. When he was a toddler, although he had trouble speaking, he would get so excited every time we passed a working truck as we called it, a dump truck or an excavator. Sometimes we even had to pull over because he was so excited to just sit there and watch.
Most of all Richard loved his family, friends and loved life’s adventures.
Richard’s struggles were bigger than any of us could have imagine. He did the best he could and he fought hard. Yet even in his darkest hour he still tried to help others who were also struggling. He put others first and his big kind heart knew no boundaries. He will be missed by so many. In his short life he touched so many lives and we are better for just having known a human as good and as pure as Richard.
